What an automated security audit actually looks like, step by step

"AI-automated audit" can mean a lot of things, and not always much. Here's exactly what happens, tool by tool, when SunuAI Robot analyzes a target — no marketing language, just the real methodology.

vulnerability database used to correlate every result with real CVEs

There's a lot of promise attached to "AI-automated auditing." Ours, SunuAI Robot, is in reality an orchestration of eight well-established security tools and techniques — some powered by automated analysis, all actively run against the target, consolidated into a single report. Here's what's really behind each step, in real execution order.

The 8 steps, in order

1

SunuAI engine

A dedicated module runs fingerprinting, reconnaissance, fuzzing and hardening checks, correlates every result against the OSV.dev vulnerability database, actively tests for SQL injection and XSS, then generates a proof of concept and an actionable remediation for each finding. This isn't a chatbot commenting on a scan after the fact — it's a deterministic pipeline that prioritizes and explains.

2

Pentest

Nmap, paired with the "vulners" NSE scripts that correlate every detected network service with real known CVEs — not just a list of open ports.

3

Web

Nikto audits the web server itself: exposed sensitive files, dangerous default configurations, missing security headers.

4

SQL injection

SQLMap actively tests for SQL injection on detected entry points — a real exploitation test, not a detection heuristic.

5

Brute force

Hydra tests SSH access resilience against a credential brute-force attack.

6

Technology fingerprint

WhatWeb identifies the technologies, CMS and component versions in use — the basis for spotting outdated or known-vulnerable versions.

7

DNS

DNSRecon probes the DNS configuration for subdomains, misconfigured zone transfers and records exposed by mistake.

8

SSL/TLS

Checks the certificate and TLS configuration — outdated protocols, weak ciphers, upcoming expiration.

How the security score is calculated

The score starts at 100 and every finding brings it down, but not all findings carry the same weight. A critical finding costs 15 points — always counted in full, uncapped, because one more critical finding is always serious, no matter how many were already found. "High" and "medium" findings count at full weight for the first 10 of each level, then their weight is divided by six beyond that.

This diminishing-returns design isn't cosmetic: it stops an audit covering many targets at once (for example SunuSurface, which applies all 8 modules to every discovered subdomain) from mechanically collapsing to the floor score simply because it covers more surface — without that necessarily being more severe, target by target, than a classic single-target scan would find.

What "AI" means here, precisely

Not a generic chatbot vaguely commenting on a report. The real AI contribution sits at step 1: automatically correlating every result against a real vulnerability database (OSV.dev), then turning a raw list of findings into a prioritized report — with, for each entry, a concrete proof of concept and a directly actionable remediation, in the user's own language. Steps 2 through 8 are established security tools (Nmap, Nikto, SQLMap, Hydra, WhatWeb, DNSRecon), actively run, not simulated.

Methodology note

This description matches SunuAI Robot's real implementation at the time of publication. An automated audit, however rigorous, remains a detection and prioritization tool — it complements a deep manual pentest, it doesn't fully replace one for the most critical environments.
